KIDS · EARLY ORTHODONTICS · KUWAIT
Give your child the best start to a healthy, confident smile. Specialist orthodontist Dr. Jefna Sagir provides braces for kids and early (interceptive) orthodontic treatment in Salmiya, Kuwait — catching issues early, when they're simplest to guide. MOH-licensed, with 13+ years' experience and 500+ cases.
The recommended age for a first orthodontic check-up is around 7 years old. At this age, enough adult teeth have come through for Dr. Jefna to spot how the jaw and teeth are developing — and to catch issues early, while they're simplest to guide.
It doesn't mean your child will need braces right away. Often it's simply a quick look to put your mind at ease, and many children are placed on gentle monitoring until the right time.
A child's jaw is still growing, which gives an orthodontist a window to guide development rather than just move teeth later. Treating early can:
Not every child needs early treatment — but for those who do, it can make later orthodontics shorter and simpler.
If you notice any of these, a check-up is worthwhile — even just for reassurance.
Gentle, focused treatment that guides jaw growth and creates space — done while your child is still developing, so later treatment is simpler or sometimes unnecessary.
When all the adult teeth are in, traditional or ceramic braces straighten the smile fully. Many children enjoy choosing coloured bands.
Removable plates and growth-guiding appliances that correct specific issues, widen a narrow jaw, or stop harmful habits — often used in the early years.
The cost depends on whether your child needs early treatment, full braces, or simply monitoring — and on how complex the case is. Here's a clear breakdown of what affects the price.

At what age should my child get braces?
A first check-up is recommended around age 7, but full braces usually start once most adult teeth are in — often between 9 and 14. Dr. Jefna assesses each child individually and only treats when the timing is right.
Does my child really need early treatment?
Many children don't — they're simply monitored until the right time. Early treatment is recommended only when guiding growth now will make a real difference, such as for crossbites, narrow jaws, or habits.
Are braces for kids painful?
Children may feel mild pressure for a day or two after braces are fitted or adjusted — it settles quickly. Dr. Jefna uses gentle techniques and makes sure young patients feel comfortable.
Will early treatment mean my child avoids braces later?
Sometimes, but not always. Early treatment guides growth and can make later treatment shorter or simpler — some children still need a short phase of braces once all adult teeth arrive.
